The 42nd edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), to be held from 7 to 17 September 2017, will feature the world premiere of Govinda Van Maele's "Gutland" (co-production of Les Films Fauves), "The Breadwinner" by Nora Twomey (co-production of Melusine Productions) and "Mary Shelley" by the Saudi Haiffa Al-Mansour (Bac Cinema co-production).

"Gutland", the Luxembourg director's first feature film, is a majority co-production with Novak Prod (BE) and Propellerfilm (DE). Stray Dogs is in charge of international sales. Ciné Sud Promotion takes care of the Canadian, US and international press for the TIFF. In this rural and surrealist thriller, featuring Frederick Lau and Vicky Krieps, a thief from a remote German town finds refuge in a small village in Luxembourg. As he gradually finds his place in the community, it would seem that he is not the only one to have a heavy past to hide. The film was realised thanks to the work of Luxembourg technicians Harald Rude (first assistant director), Narayan Van Maele (chief operator), Audrey Hernu (set designer), Fabienne Adam (make-up artist), Jasmine Schmidt (hairdresser) and Nilton Martins (casting).

"The Breadwinner" is a minority co-production of Melusine Productions / Studio 352 (Stéphan Roelants) with Ireland (Cartoon Saloon) and Canada (Aircraft Pictures) in partnership with producer Angelina Jolie. Two-thirds of the animation of the film was made in Luxembourg at Studio 352. The film tells of the life of Parvana, eleven years old, who never knew his country except in war. A nightmare war that forbids women to leave uncovered or without the escort of a man, father or husband. Large enough to be subjected to these prohibitions, Parvana must find a way to circumvent them. For since the Taliban imprisoned his father, it is up to him alone that the survival of the family in Kabul rests.

"Mary Shelley" is a minority co-production of Bac Cinema (David Grumbach) with the English and Irish Parallel Films. The film was made with Luxembourg technicians Philippe Kohn (sound manager), Nicolas Tran Trong (sound editor), Caroline Koener (costume chief), Pascal Charlier (chief machinist), Fredo Roeser (head of the make-up artist). Mary Shelley recounts the tumultuous love story and the founder of the author of "Frankenstein" with the poet Percy Shelley, dragging us into the genesis of her literary and intimate work.
