On Friday 29 September 2017, Luxembourg's Secretary of State for Culture, Guy Arendt, launched a call for participation for the "European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018".
In his speech, Secretary of State Arendt stressed the importance of this initiative, the first of its kind since 1975: "The European Heritage Year is a perfect opportunity to raise awareness of cultural heritage in order to give it more of visibility". The Secretary of State for Culture thanked the more than 150 heritage actors present, for their efforts and enthusiasm for cultural heritage. Guy Arendt was convinced that this year will provide a platform for cultural heritage and thus ensure the future of our cultural heritage in a sustainable way.
Subsequently, a presentation of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 by Catherine Magnant, project manager at the European Commission, and a presentation on the implementation of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 in Germany by Dr Uwe Koch of the Deutsches Nationalkomitee für Denkmalschutz.
The national coordinator of the European Heritage Year, Beryl Bruck, presented the main lines of implementation in Luxembourg. The Grand Duchy has chosen a participatory approach and will focus on the 3 themes education / awareness, sustainable development and technologies.
A call was made to the actors present to propose events likely to receive the label of the European Heritage Year. The web site www.patrimoine2018.lu will e the single-point-of-access for all information and events.
