For the second consecutive year, the Luxembourg Association of Translators and Interpreters (ALTI) is organising a professional conference devoted to translation and interpreting, taking place on Saturday 30 September 2017 at the Centre national de littérature in Mersch, from 10:00-18:00.

Given the success of the first Luxembourg Day of Translation and Interpreting in 2016, attended by more than 70 translators and interpreters from Luxembourg and the Greater Region, ALTI will organise a second edition for this Saturday, on the occasion of the International Day of Translation.

For many years on 30 September, the Feast of Saint Jerome, translator of the Bible and patron saint of translators, has been celebrated by translation associations all over the world and on 24 May 2017, the UN General Assembly proclaimed it International Translation Day in recognition of the role of professional translation in the rapprochement of nations and the promotion of peace.

To celebrate the occasion, the ALTI has invited renowned speakers, including Luxembourg author and literary translator Jean Portante, Daniela Amodeo Perillo, President of the European Association of Legal Translators and Interpreters, Attila Piróth, translator of the works of Albert Einstein in Hungarian, and Chris Durban, co-organiser of the Summer School of Financial Translation and author, among others, of the brochure “Translation: making the right choices”, translated into Luxembourgish by the ALTI in 2016.

The topics covered this year will be varied and will include literary translation, collaboration between translators and revisers, automatic translation, interpreting and multilingualism within the European institutions.
