As part of its commitment to education and citizenship, the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) of the University of Luxembourg is organising a conference entitled “Shaping the Europe of the Future”, which will be held on Friday 13 October 2017 from 10:00 to 12:30 on Belval Campus (Grand Auditoire, Maison du Savoir, 2 avenue de l’Université, L-4365 Esch-sur-Alzette).

This event is organised in cooperation with the Permanent Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg and other partners of the C²DH: the Robert Schuman Institute of European Affairs, the Fondation du Mérite européen and the European Parliament Information Office in Luxembourg.
 
Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, will open the conference with a lecture on the future of Europe before answering questions brought by students.

A round table featuring a number of eminent figures will follow, giving students the opportunity to discuss issues related to Europe. The panel will include:
• Jacques Santer, Honorary Minister of State, former Luxembourg Prime Minister, former President of the European Commission,
• Viviane Reding, Member of the European Parliament, former Vice-President of the European Commission,
• Claude Turmes, Member of the European Parliament,
• Yves Mersch, Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank,
• Prof. Ludwig Neyses, Vice-President for Research, acting President of the University of Luxembourg,
• Three students and one pupil: For the University of Luxembourg, Mara Kroth (Germany), Bachelor in Psychology; Max Leners (Luxembourg), Master in European & International Tax Law; Otilia-Ioana Tira (Romania), Master in Contemporary European History. As well as Mariana Matos Rodrigues (Portugal), Lycée Michel Lucius.

Prof. Andreas Fickers, Director of the C2DH, will moderate the event.
