The European Microfinance Week (EMW), hosted by the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP), will return to Luxembourg from Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 November 2023.

Over 40 sessions dedicated to the critical issues and innovations in the financial inclusion sector are on the agenda for this in-person event at the Abbaye de Neumünster in Luxembourg-Grund; several sessions will be available online for those who cannot travel to Luxembourg.

The sessions that make up EMW are largely put forward by e-MFP's member base (120+ members from all geographic regions and specialisations). This year's lineup is organised across several thematic streams, such as digitalisation, social performance, funding/investment, as well as streams on refugee finance, agri-finance and a particular emphasis on green and climate-smart finance, as well as inclusive finance for food security and nutrition - the topic of the European Microfinance Award 2023.

There will be over 30 breakout sessions within these broader themes, covering topic areas ranging from client protection, access to water and sanitation, education finance, financial health, drivers of outcomes, forestry finance, inclusive insurance and climate resilience, among others.

These breakout sessions will be supplemented by four plenary sessions: an opening plenary on the Wednesday on green and climate-smart finance, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of e-MFP's Green Inclusive and Climate-Smart Finance Action Group (GICSF-AG); a plenary on the Thursday to kick off the "Inclusive Finance for Food Security & Nutrition" stream (including the launch of e-MFP's annual Award publication on the topic); a plenary on the Friday morning on inclusive finance for refugees and displaced persons; a closing plenary on the downstream impact of EU fund regulations.

In addition, EMW 2023 will include networking opportunities, several Action Group (AG) meetings, plus some closed, invitation-only sessions, breakfast events and a conference platform and application for both in-person and remote attendees to use.

One of the highlights will be the announcement of the winner of the €100,000 European Microfinance Award 2023 during a ceremony at the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Thursday 16 November 2023.

Christoph Pausch, Executive Secretary of e-MFP, commented: "We're excited to welcome so many top thought leaders and innovators in person to participate in a range of exciting different sessions and to take advantage of the unparalleled opportunity for knowledge-sharing that only a conference like this can provide. The programme is more diverse and richer than ever before, with superlative speakers coming from all parts of the inclusive finance sector."

The conference sessions will be held in English.
