BGL BNP Paribas has reported that its Fondation Alphonse Weicker recently donated €120,000 to four institutions with the aim of fighting against precariousness.

In order to expand the number of beneficiaries, the foundation decided to distribute its donation of €120,000 between four institutions which share the goal of fighting against various forms of exclusion and precariousness, namely:

Fondation du Grand-Duc et de la Grande-Duchesse

Since its origins in 1981, this foundation, under the presidency of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, has worked in favour of integration and social inclusion. Its main purpose is to serve the most vulnerable populations, particularly women and children in Luxembourg and abroad.

Since 2019, the foundation has also supported Stand Speak Rise Up!, an initiative of the Grand Duchess which fights against rape as a weapon of war and raises awareness about the status of children born from rape. The Grand Duchess commented: "The fight against poverty, precariousness and social exclusion is among the great causes that are most dear to my heart in Luxembourg and around the world."

Social grocery stores of Caritas Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Red Cross

The social grocery stores "Caritas Buttek" and "Croix-rouge Buttek" offer people affected by poverty in Luxembourg food and hygiene products at prices up to 70% cheaper than on the market. Marc Crochet, Director General of Caritas Luxembourg, said: "Everyone has the right to a decent life! This is why Caritas Luxembourg, together with partners like the Fondation Alphonse Weicker, reaches out to people in precarious circumstances in Luxembourg, via our 'Caritas Buttek' social grocery stores. Thus, in 2023, we were able to help 5,200 people, including 1,400 children!"

Stëmm vun der Strooss

The Stëmm vun der Strooss association helps people in distress and works to promote the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people. Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, explained: "With the end of the winter action in April, and faced with the explosion of poverty, we will, like every year, distribute sleeping bags which we will be able to buy thanks to the generous support from the Fondation Alphonse Weicker."

About Fondation Alphonse Weicker

BGL BNP Paribas' Fondation Alphonse Weicker aims to promote a more sustainable and inclusive society, in particular by supporting initiatives in the areas of ecological transition, social inclusion, digitalisation and social entrepreneurship, in order to help prepare Luxembourg and the Greater Region for the major challenges of the future.

This donation is fully in line with these priorities, noted BGL BNP Paribas.

Yves Nosbusch, President of the Fondation Alphonse Weicker and Member of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas, stated: "Precariousness can disrupt life paths. Thanks to this donation of €120,000, the Fondation Alphonse Weicker supports the immense work of these four institutions which fight against precariousness and social exclusion on a daily basis."
