Last Friday saw the inauguration of the new school on Rue Antoine Meyer in Hollerich, building on which is due to end by November 2017.

Following the Ville de Luxembourg (VdL)’s decision to replace the former school building at the intersection of Rue Antoine Meyer and Rue Raymond Poincaré in Hollerich, the construction of a new three-storey annexe for the Hollerich school on 25 Rue Antoine Meyer was inaugurated on Friday 29 September 2017. Located at the intersection of the two streets, the new building constitutes a new street access for the Hollerich school complex.

The main entrance of the new structure is marked by a small square slightly elevated compared to the public space and extending towards the interior hall. All access to the building is on one level and students will be able to enter the school area quickly and securely through the inner courtyard or the main entrance.

The plaza and the entrance hall are arranged around a skylight linking the three floors of the new building. Inside this atrium, a wide staircase leads to different levels and is destined to become the meeting place of the new structure. Moreover, a walkway connects the floors of the existing building to the new one and an elevator connects the different floors between them.

The supporting structure of the new building is constructed of reinforced concrete, while the partition walls between the classrooms are made of lightweight partitions. Meanwhile, all the glass sections are triple-glazed and the classroom windows have been equipped with a mechanical dimming system.

Regarding recreational areas, the playground is divided into different zones for early, preschool and primary school pupils, separated by an intermediate zone.

Construction of the new school building, undertaken by Architecture & Urbanisme 21 Yvore Schiltz et Associés, began in September 2014 and should be officially finished by the beginning of November this year, having totalled an estimated €13,708,716.05 including tax.
