On Monday late afternoon, a person was fatally injured when hit by a train on the railway line between Schifflange and Esch-sur-Alzette.

The incident happened at around 17:00. An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The railway line is currently closed to all trains (travelling in both directions) and the barrier at the Rue d'Esch level crossing in Schifflange remains closed "until further notice".

The CFL has set up a shuttle bus service between Bettembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette according to the railway timetable; the rail company is also suggesting that passengers also consider taking the direct buses linking Luxembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette.

Trains continue to run according to schedule between Rodange, Pétange and Esch-sur-Alzette (in both directions).
