The Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs has published figures regarding applications for international protection (asylum) and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy in March 2024.

International protection

A total of 145 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in March 2024, marking a slight drop compared to 149 in February 2024. In the first three months of 2024, Luxembourg received a total of 455 applications for international protection - down from 476 received during the same period in 2023.

148 decisions on asylum applications were taken in March 2024, with 72 applicants being granted refugee status (73 in February).

Eritreans (35) represented the largest group among applicants seeking asylum in Luxembourg in March 2024, followed by Syrian (fourteen) and Colombian (eleven) nationals. A similar trend was observed for the first three months of 2024 combined, with a total of 105 Eritreans, 53 Syrians and 27 Colombians having applied for the status.

Temporary protection

A total of 76 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in March 2024 - down from 83 in February 2024. In the first three months of 2024, Luxembourg received a total of 221 such applications.

Of the applicants for March, 68 were Ukrainian nationals and eight were from other unspecified countries.

A total of 69 decisions on temporary protection applications were taken in March 2024, with 62 applicants being granted this status in Luxembourg (63 in February); seven were rejected.

Whilst Ukrainians represented the largest group (188) among applicants for temporary protection in the first three months of 2024, there were also applications from nine Algerian nationals and 24 nationals of other unspecified countries during this period.
