As part of the International Women's Day held on 8 March 2018, Luxembourg's Ministry of Equal Opportunities chose this year the theme "the fight against gender stereotypes".

During this day, more than 500 children and young people aged between 8 and 21 participated in a range of workshops organised in cooperation with various NGOs and social services partners to discover the theme in a fun and creative way: Where are the gender stereotypes and what is their impact on our lives? Are they still right today? How can we counter these prejudices and accept the diversity of bodies and skills, regardless of gender?

The young people participated with great enthusiasm and did not hesitate to share their new knowledge with Lydia Mutsch, Luxembourg's Minister of Equal Opportunities.

At lunchtime, Minister Mutsch spoke to around 200 people at the public conference "Typesch Mann, typesch Fra?" and stated "Stereotypes have an impact on our entire society because, even if they are based on false truths, they prevent us in our free thoughts and actions. This is why it is important to question sexual images and gender roles: Every girl and boy must be able to pursue their ambitions."

As part of the #changeyourperspective campaign, the Ministry of Equal Opportunities will continue, throughout the year, efforts to combat gender stereotypes and equal opportunities for women and men in all countries. aspects of life.
