On 4 and 8 August 2017, Luxembourg welcomed 55 asylum seekers relocated from Greece.

Following decisions taken by the JHA Council in September 2015 and under the relocation mechanism, Luxembourg will host a total of 557 people from Greece and Italy until the end of 2017.

In this context, on 4 and 8 August, 55 people, including 28 adults and 27 children, have arrived in Luxembourg. They constitute the seventh group of relocated international protection applicants from Greece.

The number of relocations from Greece is 272 out of a total of 309, while 111 out of 248 have been relocated from Italy.

Representatives of the Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Luxembourg Office for Hospitality and Integration (OLAI), administration under the Ministry of Family and Integration and of the Health Branch welcomed the people at Findel airport.

The OLAI will take care of the reception and the social support of these people and will support them in their approaches of everyday life throughout the procedure of their request for international protection.

Applicants for international protection relocated from Greece and Italy go through the asylum procedure as provided for by the Law of 18 December 2015 on international protection and temporary protection.
