The Luso-Luxembourg artist Marco Godinho has been selected to represent the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg at the Biennale of Contemporary Art in Venice in 2019.
The jury, consisting of Emma Lavigne (Centre Pompidou Metz director), Danielle Igniti (CCR director opderschmelz, art galleries of the City of Dudelange), Suzanne Cotter (director Mudam Luxembourg), Frank-Thorsten Moll (director IKOB Eupen) and Kevin Muhlen (director Casino Luxembourg - Forum of Contemporary Art), chose Marco Godinho after having analysed 20 applications.
With this choice, the jury wished to: "honour the prolific work of Marco Godinho and his remarkable presence on the national and international artistic scenes for a decade. The invitation to invest the Luxembourg pavilion at the Venice Biennale will allow him to realise an ambitious and unprecedented artistic project and to widen further his field of artistic action in the years to come."
Since this year, the Luxembourg Pavilion is located inside the Sale d'armi within the Arsenale. Luxembourg participation in this edition will be carried out in partnership with Casino Luxembourg - Forum of Contemporary Art, responsible for the organisation and coordination of the project.
The next Biennale will last from 11 May to 24 November 2019.
