Last weekend, the first Festival of English-language School Theatre (FEST) in Luxembourg took place at Mierscher Kulturhaus.

From 23-25 February 2018, ten one-act English-language plays were performed by 10 drama groups from schools around Luxembourg, in Mierscher Kulturhaus in Mersch.

Among the performances were a “30-Minute Hamlet”, delivered by St George’s International School and directed by Clare Williams, and “The Bright Blue Mailbox Suicide Note”, performed by students from the Lycée Classique de Diekirch and directed by Nathalie Bintener. These were the opening shows of the festival which began on Friday 23 February 2018 following a reception offered by the British Embassy in Luxembourg, the festival’s main sponsor.

The aim of the festival is to odder secondary schools across Luxembourg the opportunity to perform short one-act theatre pieces in English to the public over one weekend. It also seeks to highlight the English-speaking and artistic talent of students in Luxembourg schools.

FEST was organised by BGT_English Theatre Company and ALEA (Association des Enseignants d’Anglais) and took place under the patronage of the British Embassy in Luxembourg. Other sponsors of the festival included the American Embassy in Luxembourg, the Oeuvre National de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, the Service National de la Jeunesse, SCRIPT and the Ministry of Education and Enster All English Bookstore.
