Today, on the third day of his official visit to Senegal, HRH the Grand Duke and his official delegation visited the former political capital of St. Louis.

HRH the Grand Duke, along with Ministers Romain Schneider and Carole Dieschbourg and Secretary of State for the Economy Francine Closener, travelled with Senegal’s Prime Minister Mahammed Bon Abdallah Dionne to St. Louis, where they visited the Saint-Louis Vocational Training Centre. The centre has a capacity of 500 students per year and offers training in the professions of sewing, accounting, pottery, cooking or local social services.

The official delegation then travelled to the Guet-Ndar district, one of the areas heavily affected by coastal erosion on the Langue de Barbarie in St. Louis to see the damage caused by the disaster. This has had direct consequences for the population, as the rise of the sea regularly floods households. The Luxembourg delegation also visited the site of Eiffage Senegal- a leading construction company in Senegal which was urgently mandated to build a 3.5km long protective dyke aimed at relieving the populations of the affected population.

This was followed by a visit of St. Louis’ Regional Hospital Centre (CHR), the first hospital in black Africa. Today, the CHR is a reference hospital in the regions of northern Senegal, which has been supported financially by Luxembourg for several years.
