Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, met with his British counterpart, Theresa May, at 10 Downing Street in London on Wednesday; the two prime ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as major issues of European and international political news.

At this meeting, Xavier Bettel stated "The United Kingdom and Luxembourg have had very close relations for a very long time and I hope that we will also be partners in the future, even if the nature of our relations can not be the same after Brexit." He continued: "We must avoid that the United Kingdom does move away from the continent".

However, Prime Minister Bettel also pointed out that the aim of Brexit negotiations must be to strike the right balance between rights and obligations, which respects the interests and sovereignty of both parties. "We need a solution that respects the level playing field and allows the EU and the UK to remain at the forefront of international standards and norms" he stated.

On the sidelines of his visit to London, Xavier Bettel met several British economic decision-makers to hear the views of the British private sector on Brexit.
