On Friday 28 July, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Pierre Gramegna, was in Rome to meet his Italian counterpart, Pier Carlo Padoa, the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance.
 
At this bilateral meeting, the two ministers discussed the economic and financial situation of the European Union and the ways forward to move forward in the deepening of economic and monetary union. In particular, they referred to the strengthening of co-operation at the level of the euro zone. Another subject of discussion was the reform of the budget of the European Union.

This bilateral meeting is a follow-up to a series of meetings that Minister Gramegna has had in recent weeks with some of his counterparts to take stock of current European developments and possible ways forward for the future. Economic and Monetary Union, including bilateral meeting with Wolfgang Schäuble on 29 June 2017 in Berlin and with Bruno Le Maire on 11 July 2017 in Brussels.
