The House of Training, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Office Luxembourgeois de l’Accueil et de l’Intégration, in in collaboration with AMCHAM Luxembourg, is organising a series of courses (in English) on Luxembourg’s social, political and business environment; the courses are being held at the Centre de Formation de la Chambre de Commerce du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (7 rue Alcide de Gasperi, L-2981 Luxembourg-Kirchberg).

Programme

A history of the Luxembourg economy with a focus on foreigners’ contribution to its development: issues of voice and accountability.

-       Presentation of the country’s socioeconomic evolution since its industrialisation, with a focus on foreigners’ contribution to the economy.

-       Presentation of the political system and of the private sector’s voice in the system.

A sectorial presentation of the Luxembourg economy : where are we heading? 

-       Brief presentation of the Luxembourg economy’s main sectors with a special focus on the financial sector.

-       Luxembourg policy-makers’ efforts to diversify the economy, notably towards the ICT, logistics and the health and biotechnology sectors.

The Luxembourg education system and the labour market.

-       Presentation of the Luxembourg education system: curriculum content and institutional features.

-       Presentation of key features of the labour markets.

The national budgetary system and fiscal policy.

-       Presentation of the evolution of the state of public finances in the past decade.

-       The Luxembourg budgetary process.

Particular emphasis will be put on critically assessing the results, i.e. the outcomes and impact of the national policy-making process. When possible, considerations will be made as to how current institutional settings affect policy outcomes in Luxembourg.

Target audience: Residents and professionals with English as a first or second language who are interested in better understanding Luxembourg’s economy and the national news.

The courses will be helh on 6, 13, 20 and 27 March 2017, in total 8 hours duration, distributed across 4 sessions, with one session per week
