Peter Thompson, who last month began his challenge of running 44 marathons across 44 European countries in 44 days, will complete the Luxembourg leg in Strassen on Saturday 6 May 2017.

On 1 April 2017, Peter Thompson began the challenge of attempting to run a marathon within every country in Europe in 44 consecutive days. The aim is to raise money for two mental health charities, Livability Holton Lee and MIND, as well as to raise mental health awareness.

Upon successful completion of the challenge, this will result in having run a total of over 1000 miles across the continent, plus many more covered by transport.

The British runner was inspired to start running by the London Marathon, having first participated in the event in 2009. As for the idea of running 44 marathons in 44 days, Thompson was inspired by Eddie Izzard, Ben Smith- who ran 401 marathons in 401 days- and Sarah Outing, whose inspiring film was showcased at the Banf ocean film festival.

The Luxembourg stage of this epic marathon will take place this coming Saturday, starting and finishing in Strassen. He aims to complete the run in four hours. Thompson will then move on to Belgium on Sunday 7 May before eventually finishing his challenge in Dublin.
