Andrea Petkovic (Germany) ended Luxembourg's singles hopes at the BNP Paribas WTA Luxembourg Open by beating Mandy Minella in an exciting three-set match on Tuesday evening at the CK Sportcentre in Kockelscheuer.

Mandy took the first set 6-1 in front of a nearly full house. The 2nd set was a battle to the finish with Grand Duke Henri and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume joining with the crowd in cheering Mandy on "Allez Mandy Allez".

Both players showed an intensity that at times led to emotional outbursts. It was Andrea that prevailed. The third set intensity increased when Mandy came back from 2-4 down but it was not enough and Andrea again prevailed to win the match.

Impressive play from both sides and a battle until the last ball was struck.

Final score: 1-6, 7-5, 6-4

Also on Tuesday, the tournament organisers announced that Michael Stich, former Wimbledon champion from Germany, will replace special guest Boris Becker who could not attend.
