Luxembourg received 199 applications for international protection in May, bringing the total received so far this year up to 1068.

A quarter of the applications came from Eritrean nationals, accounting for almost 80% of the applications from that country this year. Meanwhile the number of applicants from Syria dropped to 25.

Last month, the government recognised 74 applications for protection, bringing the total up to 345 for the year. Seventy-two applications were refused.
