Luxembourg Health Minister Lydia Mutsch met with representatives of ASBL Europa Donna Luxembourg this month to hear their results for the the second Women's Journey on Breast Cancer survey in the fall of 2015.

Established in 2002, Europa Donna Luxembourg (EDL) is focused on the fight against breast cancer, and more specifically, to listening to and supporting the women concerned.

219 women participated in the survey, the objective of which was to determine whether, in Luxembourg, the care of women with breast cancer was adequate and of optimum quality, especially in terms of quality of life and care.

Although the results of the first survey (2004) showed that psychological treatment in hospitals was very weak, considerable efforts have been made since then, as EDL President Mariette Fischbach observed. Ten years later, 68% of participants said they were generally satisfied with the management of breast cancer.

Nevertheless, for EDL, improvements remain to be made so that each breast cancer patient is treated optimally and adapted to his disease in every hospital in the country.

During the interview, Lydia Mutsch particularly congratulated the members of Europa Donna Luxembourg for their exemplary and voluntary commitment.

"It is so important not to leave women alone with their illness. At Europa Donna, they can interact with other women concerned, who live in similar situations. They can talk about their worries and anxieties and see that they are not alone. This is an essential element in the fight against this atrocious disease!” said Minister Mutsch.

In this regard, Lydia Mutsch has been open to support the association in its approach to healthcare professionals and the hospital sector, and recalled the close collaboration that has existed for many years with the Mammography Service of the Ministry of Health, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year.
