The number of people requesting asylum in Luxembourg in March this year reached 222, bringing the total for the year up to 682.

People fleeing Syria accounted for just under a quarter of those seeking refuge, most of whom have been relocated here from Greece. So far, 132 individuals from Syria have sought international protection in Luxembourg.

The number of applications for international protection represents applications that have been formally submitted to the Directorate of Immigration.

So far this year, the government has recognised the refugee status of 189 applicants, more than half of them on applications dating back to 2015, and refused 132.
