On Friday 10 March 2017, the European Merit Foundation presented the Collier du Mérite Européen to the City of Luxembourg.

In collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg, Jacques Santer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the European Merit Foundation, presented the Collier du Mérite Européen to the City of Luxembourg, represented by Mayor Lydie Polfer, at a ceremony held last Friday at the Cercle Cité.

The laudation of the city was pronounced by Colette Flesch, gold medallist of the Foundation.

This distinction honours the predominant role played by the City of Luxembourg in the context of European construction since 1950, continuously promoting European and international activities on its territory.
