Nessy, the worldwide famous Loch Ness monster, seems to have chosen to pop up outside of its home country; since Monday 7 March, it has settled in Dudelange's senior residence, the CIPA Grand Duc Jean.
The 2-metre-high Nessy is actually only one of the eye-catching decoration items of the two week long Irish-Scottish themed week organised by Servior in all its fifteen senior residences across the Grand Duchy. From Wiltz to Rumelange, and from Differdange to Echternach, Servior's elderly residents will have the opportunity to taste genuine recipes from both Scotland and Ireland: the unavoidable haggis, preceded by the traditional Burns soup, the Cranachan, Scotch eggs and Scottish salmon, as well as trifle, will represent the Scottish gastronomy, while roast duck, roast beef, Irish fish pie, Baileys fudge cream and Irish strawberry cheesecake will do the same for Ireland.
Beverages will not be neglected as Guinness is available on draught, tastings of Irish whiskeys and Scottish whisky are being organised and each restaurant and cafeteria will offer Irish cider and wines.
Each residence will host a series of events to entertain their clientele: Scottish pipers, Irish "Riverdance" performances, Irish band, patchwork course, blueberry muffin baking courses, various shows about Ireland and Scotland, ... all will keep their residents busy over the two weeks.
Thanks to the support of the British Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg, the Irish and Scottish tourism boards and the British embassy (amongst other contributors), the fifteen animation teams are able to create great atmospheres, allowing their clients to travel without living their residence.
Let's just wish Nessy a safe swim back to its home lake after two weeks in Luxembourg...
