The Grand Ducal Police have announced that the A1 motorway has been closed temporarily due to a truck catching fire, just before the Howald tunnel in the direction of the Croix de Gasperich.
Shortly before 16:30, a truck laden with stones had stopped due to a fire in the engine. The emergency services arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze, and the police ensured that the truck's cargo could be transferred to another vehicle before re-opening the motorway to traffic in that (anti-clockwise) direction. At the time of writing the police have re-opened one lane to traffic as the truck has to be removed by crane. There has been no disruption to traffice travelling in the opposite direction (towards the airport).
