Work on a new €17 million extension for the Cessange primary school is now underway and is expected to be completed at the end of 2019.

The extension will replace the old sports hall, music room and class rooms, built in 1962, which were demolished earlier this year.

The new two-storey wing is specifically designed to reduce noise disturbance and any nuisance towards nearby neighbours from the school.

The plans will also help the school to integrate a growing student body, and afford easy access for people with reduced mobility.

The extension will primarily consist of classrooms, booster rooms, and several special activity areas. All classrooms will be located on the back side of the new wing, to ensure greater tranquility. The library and the multipurpose room will be oriented towards the playground, thus creating a visual contact with the activity of this outdoor space, while enjoying the very pleasant shade of the crowns of the trees.

The new wing's horizontal and vertical distribution and traffic spaces will give onto the playground. These spaces will create a buffer zone between the noise of the playground and the classrooms in the back. The main staircase connecting all the floors between them will be located at the junction of the existing one and the extension.

During the design of the project, attention was paid to the creation of free and friendly spaces on each level, facilitating both exchange and games in bad weather.
