Luxembourg’s education minister, Claude Meisch, and the Secretary-General of the European Schools, Giancarlo Marcheggiano, yesterday signed the agreement on co-operation for the International School of Differdange.

This signature marks the culmination of the approval procedure necessary to give the International School of Differdange the right to prepare its pupils to pass the European baccalaureate. Initiated in April 2015 with the submission of a file of general interest, the procedure in question continued in April 2016 with the presentation of a file of compliance with the quality requirements and then an audit by the Board of Inspection European Schools in October 2016.

Approval is granted to the International School of Differdange for a term of three school years. It takes effect retroactively to September 1, 2016 and will be renewed thereafter for successive terms of three years.

The International School of Differdange opened its doors on September 12, 2016. It currently has 161 students from 32 different nationalities. On 5 May 2017, the Governing Council decided to extend the school's school offer in Esch-sur-Alzette (Victor Hugo square building) to meet the growing demand for enrollments for the three language sections offered: Francophone, anglophone and german speakers.
