During a joint press conference, Luxembourg ministers Lydia Mutsch and Claude Meisch presented the concept of the National Reference Centre for the Promotion of Emotional and Sexual Health (CNR).

The new health centre will form an important element of the “National programme- promotion of emotional and sexual health” which was developed following the announcement of the intention for a common policy promoting these areas of health.

The national programme, signed by the Ministers of Health, National Education, Family any and Equal Opportunities on 17 July 2013, emphasises that emotional and sexual health are essential elements for well-being, regardless of a person’s gender, age, physical or psychological condition, origin or socioeconomic situation.

In order to concretise this common policy, the ministers in question have adopted an interdisciplinary approach and one which implicates everyone involved in this area to develop an action plan responding to the diverse needs of the population.

The creation of a National Reference Centre for the Promotion of Emotional and Sexual Health is considered of the utmost importance for reaching the national programme and action plan’s aims. The centre is a platform for compiling, harmonising and creating networks of national contacts, skills and expertise on the subject of sexuality in Luxembourg.

In this sence, the CNR will invest in spreading awareness and information and responding to individuals and groups according to their situation. The promotion of emotional and sexual health also extends to other sectors of life for general well-being.

Children and young people are the main targets of this new centre and programme with talks to be given in schools and educational materials on the subject to be available in school libraries.
