Wednesday 13 April 2016 saw 14 young jobseekers become certified after training as socio-educational care-givers in several daycare centres in the Grand Duchy.

The certificates were awarded by Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Nicolas Schmit, after daycare centres in 13 municipalities took in a group of young people who, through the Agence pour le développement de l'emploi (ADEM), secured an employment support contract (CAE).

The 'CAE - Maison-Relais, le relais vers l'emploi' pilot project was initiated and coordinated by ADEM as part of its Youth Guarantee ('Garantie Jeunesse') in collaborationwith the Institute national d'administration publique (INAP) and the municipalities of Dudelange, Kopstal, Kehlen, Harlange, Lenningen, Rambrough, Remich, Sanem, Steinfort, Vichten, Luxembourg, Waldbredimus and Weiler-la-tour.

The young people alternate their practical training in the daycare centres with introduction to socio-educational basic training over 100 hours. This training incorporates various components such as 'Principles and Practice of Education'; 'The Child's Psychological Development'; 'Communication, Conflict Management'; and 'Child First Aid'.

Beyond this, the INAP also provides courses such as the basics on the regulations of the work, an introduction to office automation, developing communication skills and the organisation and initiation of secretarial work. Completing the ACE offers up more opportunities to the young, such as a potential position as a municipal employee and the possibility of embarking on alternative teacher training.

The project enables young job seekers access to training which provides them with a true perspective on the job market and qualifies them to apply for a profession within socio-educational support. Others will have access to second-chance schools or training as a carer. This year of experience brings them one step closer to their career plans.

"This pilot project serves as a basis in a way and we want others to follow it targeting different population groups," commented Gaby Wagner, deputy director of ADEM. "In addition, I would like to use this opportunity to announced that ADEM and the Ministry of Children and Youth will extend this project for jobseekers over the age of 45 in the coming months. Providing opportunities for young people, but also to the older, to access this certified training is also a way to diversify the socio-educational sector."
