On Wednesday 16 March 2016, Minister for Family and Integration, Corinne Cahen, presented social and family support training certificates to 19 trainees.

The training was created in 1990 to educate people in how to support, supervise, mentor and help children, youth, the elderly and the disabled. In this way, social care-givers complement the support provided to other medical and psycho-social professionals, either in an open or institutional environment.

The Minister spoke of how these social care-givers are important in contributing to the physical, mental and social well-being of the people being supported.

The certificate received affirms that the recipient has been involved in vocational training spread over a period of two years. The training consists of a core of 242 hours, followed by a specific module of 110 hours dedicated to the individual's specialised area, for example the elderly, children and family, disability or illness. Since its inception, the training has been picked up by over 1,600 people.

Those interested in applying to the course can do so here.
