As part of his new role as Japan’s Ambassador to Luxembourg, His Excellence Shigeji Suzuki visited Carlex Glass Luxembourg’s production site in Potaschberg (Grevenmacher).

Takami Osaki, the ambassador’s First Secretary, and the economic and financial researcher Aki Imaizumi accompanied Takami Osaki on his visit. The delegation were welcomed by Carlex’s management team, Sean Konishi (Senior Executive Vice President and Business Planning), Takeshi Hosokawa (Technical Manager Europe, Manufacturing Technologies), and Peter Jegen (Director Automotive Purchasing).

The official visit is interesting in that the factory, which has been in use under Guardian Automotive since 1992, was taken over by the Central Glass group two years ago, the headquarters of which are in Tokyo. Central Glass makes chemical and glass products around the world. In Europe, the company focuses on making glass products for various vehicles.

Carlex’s products include laminated and tempered glass as well as materials for wind-shields, rear lamps and panoramic roofs. Naturally, the ambassador and his guests were interested in the Luxembourgish company’s history and the specific reasons for its takeover on 1 November 2014.

Following presentations from Central Glass and Carlex, there was a detailed description of the different production stages. During lunch after the visit, Ambassador Suzuki, who took up his new post in Luxembourg in July this year, presented his planned projects for the Grand Duchy and Europe.
