The Premier Bal of Luxembourg dance school Mireille Roulling has raised €1,500 with for SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde’s rehabilitation programme in Haiti following Hurricane Matthew.
The proceeds of the dance school’s traditional ball will go to the rehabilitation programme in Haiti, implemented by SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, following the passage of Hurricane Matthew to strengthen the resilience of local communities.
Last February, the pupils of the beginners' course of the Mireille Roulling dance school met for their traditional Premier Bal at the Alvisse Parc Hotel in Dommeldange. The dancers performed several dance genres from ballet to jazz in front of an audience of around 700 spectators.
On Sunday 9 July 2017, the director of SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde, Sophie Glesener, attended the school’s traditional summer dance brunch where she received a check for €1,500. The sum will be allocated to the reconstruction project in Haiti which aims to strengthen families in a situation of great vulnerability in Les Cayes and the surrounding area.
After emergency relief, which focused on basic needs, psychological support for children and the rehabilitation of community centres and schools, the money will be spent on opening three new community centres. In addition, rural families are supported to enable them to resume activities and to find sources of income, which have been affected since the beginning of the year by torrential rain.
