Paulo Steinberg, Doctor of Music/Associate Professor of Piano at James Madison University in Virginia, USA, is performing two concerts in Luxembourg this week.

Brazilian music is often associated with carnival and samba, played at lively, energetic tempi, with vibrant rhythms. However, melancholy and nostalgia play a big role in the music of Brazil. Therefore, an interesting contrast exists in the Brazilian culture – melancholy versus excitement. In both cases, composers are inspired by the natural exuberance and beauty of their country, and use lyricism to portray colors, characters, landscapes, and other cultural elements in their music. This recital will take you on a musical journey, with examples that show how Ernesto Nazareth and Heitor Villa-Lobos let “the rivers and seas of this great Brazil sing.”
