The Grand Theatre is putting on two performance of an Irish opera this week; The Last Hotel is being performed (in English) on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 January at 20:00 both evenings.

The Last Hotel is one of the most successful operas to have emerged from Ireland. Produced by Landmark Productions and Wide Open Opera in Dublin, It had its world premiere at the 2015 Edinburgh International Festival before also appearing in the Dublin Theatre Festival, Royal Opera House, London and St Ann’s Warehouse, New York. It was selected by Sky Arts for filming for their channel, with a special film version shot at Bray Head Hotel, Co Wicklow. The opera won the Irish Times Theatre Awards for best opera production.

The Last Hotel is directed by Enda Walsh and the composer is Donnacha Dennehy. The cast features the outstanding Irish soprano Claudia Boyle (previously seen in English National Opera’s The Pirates of Penzance at Les Théâtres de la Ville) as well as celebrated Irish actor Mikel Murfi. The remainder of the cast includes English soprano and baritone Katherine Manley and Robin Adams. Ireland’s leading contemporary music group Crash Ensemble is conducted by Alan Pierson.
