The Cercle Cité is organising a Neijoers Concert (New Year's Concert) with the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra (OCL) on Saturday 7 January 2017 at 18:00

At the dawn of each new year, it is difficult, if not impossible, not to honour those who have put to music this light and melancholy "joie de vivre" in which all Viennese continue to celebrate.

The Strauss dynasty flourished until the end of the century under the gold of the Court of Sissi and Francis Joseph. Nowadays indistinguishable, the Imperial lustre and the Strauss waltzes still shine today with all their fires, every year, during the traditional New Year Concert.

It is in an unprecedented formation that the OCL will begin the year 2017 with its now traditional New Year concert. Some of the most beautiful waltzes of Johann Strauss in arrangements by Schönberg, Berg and Webern will be on the menu of this very Viennese evening. The latter, better known for their innovative compositions using the twelve-tone writing devised by Schönberg himself, have in fact endeavored to write arrangements of certain Strauss waltzes for small ensembles. Meticulous and inspired at the same time, these arrangements will enchant audiences with the finesse of their subtle colours, while making them discover a lesser-known aspect of the work of the leading composers of the second Viennese school.
