Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess were in Cannes to mark the 15th year of Luxembourg’s participation in the international film festival.

The prime minister said that the film market was an essential showcase of Luxembourg's creativity and know-how. "The audiovisual sector is doing well and I am ready to continue to develop it, notably by adapting the legislative framework of the support mechanism Of the fund so that it can fully meet the current and future needs of the profession”, he said.

The international film market attracted more than 12,000 participants this year and nearly 4,000 films and projects. The Luxembourg delegation visited the stands of the majority co-producing countries of Luxembourg, namely Belgium, Germany, Quebec and Ireland but also on the NEXT pavilion, a sector dedicated to virtual reality.

During a press conference at the Luxembourg pavilion the Luxembourg Film Fund officially launched the Virtelio Award 2017, an international 360 ° interactive film-writing competition initiated by the realab start-up in Luxembourg, created by Fred Baus in partnership with Julie Gayet, mk2, and the Festival Paris Courts Devant.

The selected scenario will be coproduced with a Luxembourg company which will use the creative software VR developed by realab. "This innovative project represents the perfect symbiosis between artistic creation and new technologies and is among the many new initiatives that the Fund is implementing to adapt to the latest technological developments," said Guy Daleiden.
