Film Fund Luxembourg, D'Filmakademie, Samsa Film, Juliette Films and Paul Thilges Distributions have announced that three films from the Grand Duchy have picked up awards at the 4th Trophées Francophones du Cinema in Beirut in Lebanon.

Firstly, Christophe Wagner won the Francophone Achievement Trophy for his film Eng nei Zäit (Tomorrow, After the War) produced by Samsa Film. And, secondly, the Luxembourg co-production The New Testament directed by Jaco van Dormael (Juliette Films) was awarded two prizes:

• Francophone trophy for the best male performance for Benoît Poelvoorde;

• Francophone screenplay trophy for Jaco Van Dormael and Thomas Gunzig.

As well as the awards given in each country for national cinema, the Francophone Film Trophies award nine prizes each year to works and artists from Francophone countries.

Voting takes place in two rounds: a first round which identifies the nominees in several categories, and a second round which designates the winners of the various categories. The winners are revealed at the annual awards ceremony.

For Luxembourg, films eligible for the Francophone Trophies are submitted by the Luxembourg Film Academy, D'Filmakademie. Luxembourg was well represented at the end of the first round of nominations with:

• La Supplication, directed by Pol Cruchten and produced by Red Lion, nominated for the Francophone Documentary Feature Trophy;

• Eng nei Zäit (Demain, après la guerre) produced by Samsa Film, nominated in the Francophone Trophy for Best Male Performance (Luc Schiltz) and for the Francophone Performance Trophy
