The European Parliament, Konrad Adenauer Building, in Luxembourg-Kirchberg is to host an art exhibition by the Syrian artist Mohamad Ghanoum from 8 - 16 June 2017.

The Syrian artist and calligrapher, Mohamad Ghanoum, developed his distinctive style in the mid-1970s. The focus of his works is not the classical form of writing and calligraphy, but more the importance of individual words, themes, different colors and shapes, and constant movement within his paintings.

He extracts a single letter of a word, which then overlaps and forms an arabesque, with intertwining flowing lines that are dynamic and simultaneously create harmony and tranquility. Mohamad Ghanoum has held numerous exhibitions not only in the Middle East, but also worldwide. He has received prestigious awards and recognition and renown as one of the best Arabic calligraphers. His works are displayed in museums and private collections worldwide.

One of his greatest desires is to emphasise the importance of the arts, education and the pursuit of knowledge. His calligraphy, his many years' teaching at the University of Damascus, and his calligraphy workshops in a number of European countries help him to achieve his desire to showcase the beauty of Arabic art.

The exhibition will take place in the European Parliament, Konrad Adenauer Building, entrance from Rue du Fort Niedergruenewald, 1st floor; open from Monday to Friday - 09:00 to 18:00

The artist will be represented by his daughter, Mrs Wedian Ghanoum.

The exhibition is open to staff of the European Institutions, and to others by prior arrangement with Mrs Ghanoum (tel: 621-473789; Email: wediangh@hotmail.com)

The exhibition will open on Thursday, 8 June 2017 at 18:00, under the patronage of Mr Claude Turmes, Member of the European Parliament
