On Thursday 6 July 2017, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, paid a working visit to Luxembourg.

As part of his working visit to the Grand Duchy, Commissioner Carlos Moedas was welcomed by Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel for an interview Hotel of Burgundy.

The agenda included the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme, the new law on aid schemes for research, development and innovation, as well as Luxembourg's performance in Innovation.

The Prime Minister underlined on this occasion that Luxembourg has been classified by the Commission as a notable innovator, particularly thanks to attractive research systems, a favourable environment for innovation and strong intellectual capital. He commented: "Between 2017 and 2019, the government intends to invest an average of € 35.7 million annually in aid for research, development and innovation to enterprises."

At the end of the meeting, Carlos Moedas and Xavier Bettel attended the 30th anniversary conference of the Erasmus + programme at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette.
