CONVIS, a cooperative for breeding and consulting and a founding member of the "Cactus - Rëndfleesch vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer" label, has revealed positive results for 2016.

Last year, 2,027 tonnes of meat were marketed in the Cactus brand under the label "Cactus-Rëndfleesch vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer", an increase of 1.4% compared with the previous year.

CONVIS, which has been the cooperative breeding and consulting partner of Cactus for 20 years, has drawn up a more than positive assessment of the year 2016, despite a troubled European market.

With 4,644 cattle, or 2027 tonnes of beef marketed, the label has had one of the best figures since its creation in 1996, this being a consistent  trend since 2013.

A good result was also achieved with the premium quality label Fleesch, launched in early 2016, offering superior beef selected from the best heifers. 205 heifers have been marketed under this label. Cactus has been a pioneer in this market, which now benefits all heifer owners. In 2016, 20.05% of bovine animals marketed in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg wee marketed under the Cactus label.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the label, a major national display campaign was launched at all Cactus outlets, in honour of the 160 Luxembourg breeders who are members of the label and who work in the strictest respect of animals and the environment. In addition, an evening of thanks in their honour was organised by Cactus at Jean Berchem’s farm of in Olm to celebrate this historic moment in the presence of Mr Fernand Etgen, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection.

Cactus is approaching the sectoral challenges of the coming years in a confident way and can count on the rigour and the commitment of the members of the label that have earned the trust of an increasingly demanding clientele.
